About
Our group studies how computers can handle human language. Our research spans a wide range of topics: from fundamental research — developing techniques that enable computers to handle language better, and uncovering what happens inside computers when they process language, to applied research solving concrete problems in society. Our fields are known as computational linguistics and natural language processing, or more broadly, generative AI and artificial intelligence.
Seminar Activities
- Basic study groups
- Student-led study groups for beginners in natural language processing to acquire the fundamental knowledge necessary for research.
- NLP 100 Exercise, Textbook reading circles
- Plenary meeting (Lab-wide seminar)
- A weekly meeting where members report their research progress to the whole lab. We also invite external researchers for talks.
- Individual research meetings
- Meetings for in-depth discussion and guidance on each member’s research. Members working on related topics are grouped into small teams, meeting roughly once a week.

Lab Environment
The lab is located in Room 213, Building 2 (Low-Rise Wing) on Hino Campus, with about 90 m² of space. Students are provided with a desk, chair, display, and laptop. For experiments, the following GPUs are available, and we also provide cloud-based HPC computing services as needed.
